Coming tomorrow as an SD Bullion exclusive, this release is especially close to our hearts as modern bullion collectors — showcasing the timeless artistry and craftsmanship of The Royal Mint.
The Royal Mint revives one of Britain’s most legendary historical motifs in a striking new gold and silver coins release.
First introduced in 1465 during the reign of Edward IV, this enduring symbol represented strength, protection, and divine authority for centuries. Historically bestowed during royal touch ceremonies in medieval England, these iconic coins became symbols of divine protection, royal legitimacy, and healing power. During these ceremonies, monarchs were believed to cure the “king’s evil” through their touch, while recipients were presented with specially blessed coins known as touch pieces.
Now, The Royal Mint reimagines this celebrated design for modern collectors.
Crafted by Royal Mint Chief Engraver Gordon Summers — renowned for acclaimed projects including the 2025 Britannia & Liberty collaboration with US Mint Chief Engraver Joseph Menna — this latest release blends historic symbolism with masterful contemporary engraving. Summers is widely recognized for remastering classic British coin designs for the modern era.
A powerful piece of British numismatic history returns tomorrow.
Stay tuned.
